Governor Abbott Reopens Texas Retail

TRA members:

This afternoon, Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced his initial executive orders to re-open the Texas economy from the COVID-19 crisis. Please refer to the Governor’s press release. In the press release you can find the Governor's Executive Orders and details about today's announcements

As part of his plan, the Governor announced that the current Texas “stay at home executive order” will expire on April 30th, this Thursday. He further announced a new executive order putting into place Phase One of re-opening the Texas economy. Today’s announcement of Phase One allows for ALL retailers in Texas to open, WITH strict measures, effective this Friday, May 1st.

Today’s announcement does not change the operations of those retailers who have been operating as current essential businesses such as grocery, pharmacy, home improvement, etc… Therefore, as of this Friday, May 1st, the entire retail sector in Texas will be allowed to operate at a minimum of 25% of store capacity.

Below are important protocol documents for retailers from the Texas Department of State Health Services (Tx DSHS), which the Governor referenced in his announcement of today’s order. Lastly, the Governor also announced that he will announce information regarding further re-opening of the Texas economy, to be announced by mid-May.
