The Texas Federation of Drug Stores (TFDS) is a 501(c)(6) non-profit trade association representing 14 companies that operate more than 2,300 community retail pharmacy outlets in the State of Texas.
The Federation is a dues-paying member of the Texas Retailers Association. The Federation has its own Board of Directors and Bylaws. The Federation makes an annual $1,000 donation to each Texas college or school of pharmacy’s student scholarship fund.
The Federation’s activity is focused on pharmacy-specific legislative and regulatory issues, including: the administration of state and federal drug programs (i.e. Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP, workers’ compensation); Texas State Board of Pharmacy activities; scope of practice issues; and professional practice issues (i.e.
conscientious objection and workforce issues).
The organization is a member of the Texas Pharmacy Congress and Texas Pharmacy Practice Coalition. Through these organizations, the Federation enjoys a close working relationship with the Texas Pharmacy Association, Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists, Texas State Board of Pharmacy, Texas Medicaid Vendor Drug Program, and all six of the colleges and schools of pharmacy in Texas.
The Federation meets on a quarterly basis, and their annual two-day convention is normally held on the first Thursday and Friday of October. In addition to her duties at Texas Retailers Association, Kathy Barber is also the Executive Director of the Texas Federation of Drug Stores.
The Federation communicates almost exclusively through email, except during the regular legislative session (January to May of even-numbered years), when they hold weekly conference calls that are generously funded by the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS).
