The Internet is the greatest social change in the history of humans, and Social Media is transforming communications. Since the first Internet Christmas in 1999, retailers’ brick and mortar operations have never been the same. This presentation will focus on how retailers now deal with Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Yelp, Blogs, Wikipedia, Google, and other related technologies. The Internet and Social Media impact sale tax considerations, payment systems, credit card processing, jurisdiction for disputes, and other important issues.
Peter S. Vogel is a trial partner at Gardere Wynne Sewell where he is Chair of the eDiscovery Group and Technology Industry Team. Mr. Vogel has a Masters in Computer Science and since 2000 he has taught courses on the Law of eCommerce at the SMU Dedman School of Law. For 12 years, Mr. Vogel was the Founding Chair of the Texas Supreme Court Judicial Committee on Information Technology which is responsible for helping automate the Texas Court System and putting the Internet on the desktops of all 3,200 Judges. Registration for the TRA Annual Meeting is $125 for all attendees. If you are registering more than one attendee, you will need to submit the online form more than once, or you can fax or mail the hardcopy form.
When completing online registration, be sure to select Annual Meeting Attendee under the Registration Fee section. Then, enter your attendance for the remaining events. Then, click the Register for Convention button at the bottom of the page to proceed to the payment screen.
